Lamp Lighter Ministries Inc, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. The members and friends of LLM come from a variety of traditional churches across Perth and share the common belief that God’s love is for all. Our ministry is motivated by a love for God, and our mission is to see lives enriched and transformed through the love of Christ.
Lamp Lighter Ministries is a prominent city-wide market place ministry which began in 1987 and was formalised in 1997 when we became an incorporated association. LLM has no paid staff and operates on the good will and generosity of volunteers, and through generous donations of friends and community members who are familiar with the work of LLM.
As a faith based organisation LLM has offered comfort, compassion, insight and guidance to those who have suffered traumatic experiences in their lives, or to anyone who could just not get on top of circumstances and situations that they found themselves in.
Historically LLM has used it’s Mandurah property (Christine House) for training, respite and crises accommodation. We have also provided pastoral care, spiritual counselling, and conducted treaching seminars.
While LLM continues it’s core business of community service, counselling and pastoral care, the new partnerships and potential funding from government will offer additional services to meet the growing needs of the community.
Some project highlights are:
In 2003 LLM provided assistance for a group of indigenous Sri Lankans to establish a safe house for young single mums and their children. The project resulted in the formation and successful registration of the Tear Drop Foundation in Sri Lanka. Through Tear Drop a 22 acre farm was purchased and leadershp was establish. Now this farm is generating income to supply a housing for abused females from the community. These girls are loved, trained and prepared for independant living. This project was LLM’s first international experience in community development and in 2008 the project was completed and the foundation now operates as a sustainable and viable community service.
In 2009/10 LLM also assisted the Disability Services with a pilot programme for enabling an intellectually impared person to prepare for indepent living. This programme was very successful and the Department set up ‘The Hub’ as a result.
In 2013 LLM assisted two homeless Sudanese families that were unable to find favour with rental landlords because of their large families. They eventally found accommodation and we were able to give them a favourable reference.
In 2014 LLM hopes to continue it’s community work in a new project comming soon.
